BAWUMIA IN TEARS IN LONDON

By Phillip Antoh

The former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, found himself in the United Kingdom shedding ‘crocodile tears’ to elicit sympathy from party supporters as he publicly begged for forgiveness following the NPP’s devastating loss in the 2024 general elections.
Addressing a gathering in London, Dr. Bawumia, in a display that appeared contrived, confessed to a multitude of missteps that led to the party’s stunning defeats in crucial constituencies.
Admitting fault, he lamented, “While the NPP achieved much, our execution was not flawless. We made numerous errors, and I offer my sincere apologies on behalf of myself and the party for falling short of our objectives.”
Despite the setback, he expressed optimism for the future, proclaiming, “I am confident that, with divine intervention, we will rectify our past blunders if granted the opportunity again, armed with the valuable lessons we have acquired.”
Following the NPP’s defeat, a 12-member investigative committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, delved into the reasons behind the loss and submitted its findings to party leadership, who opted to keep the report under wraps.
This secrecy has irked grassroots party members eager to comprehend the real causes of the party’s electoral failure, prompting accusations that Dr. Bawumia is manipulating emotions instead of disclosing the true reasons for the loss.
Election results saw significant losses for the NPP, with Mr. John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) clinching 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) to Dr. Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
The 9th Parliament now sees a noteworthy power shift, as the NDC commands a super majority of 183 seats in contrast to the NPP’s 88 seats.
