MAHAMACARES Receives Support, Minister Calls for More

By Philip Antoh
The Health Minister, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, thanked Telecel Ghana and other companies for their generous donations to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as MAHAMACARES.
These contributions were made during a short ceremony aimed at supporting the fund’s sustainability and coinciding with the launch of the Maha Markets initiative.
He expressed that such support is vital for improving healthcare in the country, especially in combating non-communicable diseases like cervical cancer.
He highlighted the connection between health and productivity, stating that healthy individuals perform better, making investment in NCD treatment beneficial for businesses.
Telecel Ghana provided advanced cervical cancer screening equipment, which will be distributed to three health centers, and they will also cover operational costs for two years. Other donations included GHS 500,000 from Alive Industries, GHS 50,000 from East Cantonments Pharmacy, and GHS 5,000 from PMI Energies.
Mr. Akandoh urged other companies and individuals to contribute, noting that any amount is appreciated. Donations can be made via the short code *255# or directly to the Ministry of Health’s account.
He concluded by emphasizing that the fund is for both treatment and prevention, making support crucial.
