Devastating Windstorm Wreaks Havoc In Akatsi South: Assembly member’s Emotional Plea For Aid

In a heart-wrenching plea for support, Hon. Japhet Festus Gbede, the Assemblymember for Wuxor, Have, and Sremanu Electoral Area in Akatsi South, Volta Region, has sounded the alarm following a catastrophic windstorm that brought destruction to the community.
The storm, which unleashed its fury on September 10th, 2024, left Wuxor Junior High School in ruins along with several homes, plunging the vulnerable farming community into a state of despair. Hon. Gbede’s poignant cry for help has drawn attention to the dire situation faced by students, teachers, and residents who now find themselves without essential facilities and shelter.
    Speaking out about the urgent need for action, the Assembly member highlighted the pressing requirement for immediate intervention from NADMO, government bodies, NGOs, and compassionate individuals. His appeal encompasses the urgent call for:
1. Reconstruction of the devastated school structure
2. Provision of alternative educational facilities for impacted students
3. Essential relief supplies such as food, shelter, and clothing for the displaced community members.
    The plight of an 8-year-old student from the ravaged school, who lost her classroom and learning materials, stands as a poignant example of the suffering endured by many in the wake of this natural disaster. “Ama’s story is a reflection of many others like her,” Hon. Gbede expressed. “We owe it to our nation’s future leaders to ensure they receive education and basic necessities.”
Further highlighting the challenges faced by individuals like 79-year-old Mrs. Akuyo, who saw her home and livelihood destroyed by the storm, the Assemblymember stressed the critical need for collective action. “Mrs. Akuyo and others in similar distress require our immediate support,” he urged.
