The Ministry of Education has announced the successful release of this year’s Senior High School (SHS), Senior High Technical School (SHTS), and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) placements for candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
At a press briefing in Accra, the Ministry revealed that out of the 603,328 candidates who took the examination, 590,309 qualified for placement across various secondary institutions nationwide.
This represents a significant increase compared to last year’s numbers, signaling growing enthusiasm among Ghanaian youth to pursue secondary education.
According to the Ministry, 483,800 candidates, representing 82%, have been successfully placed in schools of their choice.
Of these, 248,038 are females (51.4%) while 234,783 are males (48.6%). However, 107,509 candidates (18.2%) could not be matched with any of their initial school choices due to the high demand for certain Category A schools.
To cater to these students, the Ministry has activated a self-placement portal where unplaced candidates can select from institutions with available vacancies.
This year’s placement covers 724 public SHSs/SHTSs, 233 TVET institutions, and, for the first time, 70 private SHSs piloted under the Free SHS Programme.
Resolution centres have also been set up at district, regional, and national levels, with the GNAT Hall in Accra serving as the national resolution hub.
The Ministry further cautioned parents and guardians not to pay any individual or official for placement, stressing that the process is entirely free. Cases of extortion, it said, should be reported to the police or the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
The Ministry congratulated all candidates and called for the support of parents, teachers, and communities to ensure that every child, whether placed directly or through self-placement, has access to quality education.
