A coalition of progressive organizations and movements from Africa, Europe, and the Americas has issued a joint statement condemning the alleged kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro, the constitutionally elected President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The statement, dated 15 January 2026, calls for his immediate release and denounces the action as a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law.
The groups, which describe themselves as committed to social justice, democracy, and anti-imperialist struggle, accused the United States of orchestrating the abduction through armed forces.
They described the act as “imperial violence” that undermines popular sovereignty and threatens global norms established under the United Nations Charter.
According to the statement, the move represents an escalation in the use of coercive force and sets a dangerous precedent for unilateral intervention, warning that such actions endanger the sovereignty of all nations.
The coalition called on the international community to take specific actions, including publicly condemning U.S. aggression, demanding accountability for violations of international law, and organizing protests and petitions at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide.
They also urged the unconditional release of President Maduro and his wife, and rejected any form of foreign military intervention, intelligence operations, or attempts at regime change.
The statement emphasizes the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination and insists that all disputes be resolved through peaceful negotiation and multilateral diplomacy.
The signatories include over 70 organizations from across Africa, Europe, and the Americas, including the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (Ghana), Convention People’s Party (Ghana), Socialist Party of Zambia, Pan-African Progressive Front, and Friends of the Congo (USA), among others.
Collectively, the groups reaffirmed their solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their opposition to imperialism, calling for a world order that respects sovereignty, international law, and the self-determination of all peoples.
The statement concluded with a call for global progressive unity, declaring: “From the continent and beyond, our rallying cry is one: We progressive voices of the world, unite! Together, we shall end imperialism! Hands Off Venezuela!”
