Member of Parliament (MP) for the Old Tafo constituency, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has threatened legal action against a tiktoker, Lopez for accusing him of promising her love and marriage and later dumping her to marry another tiktoker, one Dr Charis.
According to the legislator, he has absolutely no knowledge of the said lady and has never met her before, contrary to her claim that the MP did not only slide into her inbox on social media, but went on a date with her and gave her money.
“I don’t know anybody like that. What has been put out there is sharp falsehood, palpable falsehood. It has nothing to do with the truth.
I have not entered her DM. I have not had any exchanges of messages with whatsoever. I don’t know where she got those screenshots from”, he said.
Speaking exclusively to media personality, Blakk Rasta, as the brouhaha ranges on, Assafuah rubbished the claims mounted by Lopez, revealing he was already in talks with his lawyers to seek redress in court.
He noted that, he has gathered that Lopez after the backlash has deleted the videos containing the defamatory content.
“So clearly, after I had told my lawyers to find a way to issue a letter, to get her to apologize and to sue, I also saw that the video had already been deleted”.
Asked if he was going to proceed with the legal action, Assafuah, who was a few years ago called to the bar, said he is still talking to his lawyers and will take the advice they will give him.
“Well, that would be in the wisdom of my lawyers as to how they would want to advise. So that will they find a way to deal with it. But for now, I will wait on them to see if they want us to proceed with it”.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker said following the accusation, he made the effort to reach out to Lopez and for her engagement with her, everything showed that she did not even have his contact.
He said he also did not have Lopez’s contact so he prevailed on a couple of friends who finally got her the number. Following from that, he said he reached out and there was no response, but subsequently, Lopez texted in response and demanded to know who he was and if he wanted to order something from her.
“She followed up with a text, saying that do I want to order something, and who is this? And right in the face, she didn’t even know the person that she is speaking to. So I introduced myself, this is honourable Vincent Assafuah. I have seen an unpleasant video, and I wanted to speak to you about it respectfully so if you have time, you should…..
Then she said, okay, please can we talk, or please we can talk. So when the second message came from her, I was like, is this the same person who says she has blocked me from everywhere? This is the same person who is saying that she has my number, she has been having conversations with me, and so this is all not true”, he narrated to Blakk Rasta.
But of course he was concerned about the discussions on social media and reiterated that he has absolutely no knowledge of her.
“But of course, in the court of public opinion, where people may say that this is true, I would want to assure them that this is not true. And this falsehood, palpable falsehood, is not going to happen anyway. It should be put into the trash. Finally, this falsehood, supposed falsehood, has it…”
Background
Vincent Assafuah, last Saturday, March 7, tied the knot in a private traditional marriage with Dr. Charis at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region. Immediately photos of the colourful event surfaced online, Lopez emerged telling the world she has been deceived.
She in a video said she knew the MP and he had given her a clear indication that he was interested in her. She confessed she had fallen for him and was looking forward to start something with him.
She claim their conversation extended from social media to dates where the MP offered substantial amount following which he seized communication and blocked her. It was after that she learned about his marriage to the medical professional.
Even though Lopez did not mention any name, the description she gave pointed to the couple.
Meanwhile, Lopez has deleted the said video and apologized for her claims asking that the matter be put to rest. She claims she has been threatened by many people including constituents of the MP and since she does not want to be harmed, she wants the issue to die a natural death.
