Dennis Miracles Aboagye, aide to NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo to resign, arguing that her recent controversial comments undermine the decorum expected of public office.
The minister had issued a public apology on Wednesday, April 6, following widespread criticism over remarks suggesting that postings to northern Ghana could be construed as punitive. She described the statement, captured in a widely circulated video, as a “genuine slip in communication” and insisted it did not reflect her personal views nor official policy on public service postings.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, May 6, Miracles acknowledged that the minister may have made some contributions during her tenure, but suggested it was time to “give way for others” who can adopt a more unifying and measured approach.
He stressed that holding public office demands rigorous discipline in communication, and criticized what he characterized as an inclination toward excessive media visibility and imprudent public commentary.
“…But if you choose to go the path on which she is doing, where she’s camera happy, she always wants to be in front of the camera, and she’s always making very loose talks all the time, it is not helpful,” he added.
Miracles further contended that an apology is insufficient when public remarks generate backlash, asserting that true leadership in public service must extend beyond regret to demonstrate genuine accountability.
