Successful Ghanaian businessman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kessben Group of Companies, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, has reportedly died after a short illness.
The unfortunate news occurred today, Thursday, August 20, 2026. The man of many parts popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben was 68.
Kessben until his sudden passing was a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist who built a diverse business empire spanning media, education, hospitality, transport and financial services.
He also served as a member of the National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010.
His death has sent shivers across business, media, and political communities, with tributes expected to pour in from individuals and institutions that worked with him throughout his career.
Born on September 12, 1957, Kessben grew up in North Suntreso in Kumasi and spent more than three decades building and managing his businesses.
Kessben was widely associated with the Kessben brand, a business multinational with interests spanning various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
His leadership contributed to the growth and visibility of the group, which became a notable corporate name, especially in the Ashanti Region.
The Kessben Group is an umbrella for a number of registered companies: Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Ltd, Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult, and Kessben Foundation—as well as Kessben FM Limited and Kessben TV.
Per the company’s profile available at the Registrar General’s Department, he is the sole shareholder of Kessben FM Limited, the parent company under which his media businesses (Kessben TV, Aseda TV, and Kessben FM) are registered.
As CEO of Kessben Group of Companies, Mr. Boateng played an important role in steering the affairs of the group and overseeing its business operations.
The Kessben brand has over the years established a strong presence in Ghana, with its activities extending beyond commerce into areas that have had an impact on employment, enterprise development, and the wider socio-economic landscape.
Mr. Boateng’s professional career was also distinguished by his legal background, with the title “Esq.” reflecting his standing as a lawyer. He was called to Ghana’s bar in 2022.
