The Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has issued a stern warning to broadcaster and lawyer Ernest ‘Adakabre’ Frimpong Manso.
The veteran broadcaster, who is also the General Manager (GM) of the VIP Jeoun Transport Company, has been directed to ensure the environs of the company, near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, is in proper sanitary condition.
The Mayor, days ago stormed the premises of the company during his on-going decongestion exercise which commenced on Monday May 19 in the Accra metropolis.
During the visit, it emerged that a part of the premises of the company looked very appalling and unkempt with rubbish and dirty water left unattended to.
Kpakpo Allotey who has been commended for attaching human face to the exercise described the situation as unacceptable as he toured the premises with Adakabre and the media.
On his part, the Neat FM presenter explained that, the cleaning aspect has been outsourced but admitted whoever they hired has failed in doing the work given them.
He promised to ensure that going forward, the proper thing is going to be done. The Mayor gave the MD, up to Monday May 26, to fix the deplorable situation or he takes action against the VIP Company.
Read below their interaction:
Mayor: “I knew you when I was a young boy but look at what is happening here, you think it is right?
Adakabre: I wouldn’t say it is right because we have employed people to do the work so if they don’t’ do their work, we have to be responsible and then take it from them.
Mayor: So, what are you going to say about what is happening here? I am going to take action by way of one recalling my refuse inspectors; the two of them and then get to the driver who takes it to the …….
Mayor: I know you very well so I am giving you up to Monday to fix this if you don’t fix it I will take you. The Mayor Monday started a decongestion exercise which to some extent has aided in the free flow of traffic.
Even though this is not new, what has become topical of the exercise is the soft nature of the exercise. He has instead of destroying and getting the security agencies to clampdown on traders and drivers or speaking harshly to them, he has adopted a human face approach.
He has been calmly and in a civil manner engaged stakeholders with many of them applauding and exchanging pleasantries with him and encouraging him to continue on that path.
