The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, has rejected allegations that the Attorney-General’s office has misplaced evidence in the ongoing criminal case of the Republic v Adu-Boahene.
He asserts that all necessary documents are secure and have been properly submitted.
“The Attorney-General’s office has not lost any evidence related to the ongoing Republic v Adu-Boahene criminal trial,” he mentioned in a post on X on Thursday, August 28.
He stated that all supporting documents were submitted to the court well ahead of time.
“As of June 18, we had submitted all the documents we plan to use to establish the charges against the 4 Accused Persons in this case.
“These documents include sales contracts, bank wire transfer records, bank account statements, company registration papers, property ownership documents, purchase receipts, INTERPOL stolen vehicle records, investigative caution statements, and charge statements for each Accused Person, records of asset non-declaration, a flow chart of money movements through a complex network of bank accounts, and testimonies from our 3 witnesses.”
He also emphasized that the accused individuals have already received certified copies of the evidence.
“Court-certified copies of each of these documents have been properly served to each of the Accused Persons. Therefore, it is unrealistic to think that the documents could be lost and jeopardize the prosecution of the case.”
Regarding the trial’s progress, Justice Srem Sai confirmed that proceedings had already started before the legal vacation.
“Before the legal vacation began on July 31, the first of our 3 prosecution witnesses had finished testifying and had been cross-examined by the lawyers of 3 of the 4 Accused Persons.”
He mentioned that the trial is scheduled to continue later this year.
“The trial will resume in earnest in mid-October when the courts come back from the legal vacation.”
