…as Campaign Administrator Ahead of NPP Primaries
By Prince Ahenkorah
In a move that signals a tightening of internal discipline and strategic recalibration, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer contender Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has appointed Charles Cromwell Nana Bissue as Campaign Administrator, ahead of what insiders expect to be one of the party’s most fractious presidential primaries in recent memory.
The appointment, formally announced on 14 October, places Bissue at the helm of Agyapong’s campaign infrastructure, tasked with coordinating regional operations, managing internal communications, and enforcing message discipline across a sprawling and increasingly assertive grassroots base.
Bissue, a former Presidential Staffer and Western Regional Secretary, is seen within party circles as a tactician with deep institutional memory and a reputation for operational efficiency.
His elevation suggests Agyapong is moving to consolidate control over his campaign architecture, which has until now operated with a degree of decentralised spontaneity an approach that has earned him populist appeal but raised questions about long-term viability.
Sources close to the campaign say Bissue’s remit will extend beyond logistics. He is expected to act as gatekeeper for policy briefings, intelligence reports, and strategic submissions intended for Agyapong’s review.
All external correspondence is now being routed through his office, a move interpreted as an effort to insulate the candidate from factional pressures and streamline decision-making.
Agyapong’s statement described Bissue as “a man of experience, diligence, and commitment,” and emphasised his track record in both public service and political organisation.
The timing of the appointment is notable, coming as rival camps within the NPP begin to sharpen their messaging and mobilise regional blocs ahead of the primaries.
While Agyapong continues to position himself as the anti-establishment candidate leveraging his outsider status and media clout Bissue’s appointment may mark a shift toward more conventional campaign architecture.
Whether this hybrid model of populist messaging and bureaucratic control can deliver electoral dividends remains to be seen.
For now, the appointment is being read as a signal that Agyapong intends to run a more structured and disciplined campaign one that can withstand the internal turbulence expected as the NPP’s succession battle intensifies.
