The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened to personally arrest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) hoodlums who physically attacked their parliamentary candidate for the Akwatia by-election Bernard Bediako Baidoo.
The governing party says it will be in the interest of the police led by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yehonu to arrest the individuals who they say number 20 or the Police would have them to contend with.
“The NDC demands a speedy action from the police. Else, they may have incidents to deal with on or before the day of the election”, the party has said,
It has given the Police administration up to today, Monday, September 1, to arrest the sympathizers of the opposition party who attacked the NDC delegation.
The delegation attended the One-Week remembrance of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akwatia constituency Ernest Yaw Kumi and were led by the national chairman of the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia alias General Mosquito.
The team was attacked at the event grounds by some identified individuals especially women who verbally and physically assaulted the candidate and by extension the chairman.
In a statement issued on Saturday signed by the Deputy National Communication Officer Godwin Ako Gunn, they have petitioned the police and are expecting them to do as expected within the stipulated period.
According to him, the NDC went to the event officially invited by the widow of the deceased with a Gold-Plated Card, hence they were not gatecrashers and so the attack was unwarranted and lawless.
He noted that the faces of the individuals have been captured in videos and so the expectation is that the police will arrest them and prosecute them just as it did in the case of the Ablekuma rerun.
The NDC said, the police cannot arrest and prosecute people who attacked the former Minister for Fisheries Hawa Koomson and secure conviction for all eight within weeks and fail to do same in this new case at Wenchi.
“The police cannot be seen speeding up arrest and prosecutions when it comes to the NDC and being lackadaisical when it comes to NPP. We are ready to cooperate with the police from this evening till the evening of Sunday if they call on us. Anything less than this will see us helping them in their duties on Monday and Tuesday”, he said.

POLICE MUST ARREST ATTACKERS OF NDC’S PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE AT THE ONE WEEK COMEMORATION OF THE DEATH OF ERNEST KUMI
The national democratic congress has made an official complaint to the Ghana police service to cause the arrest of some 20 persons captured on videos making the rounds on social media before Monday the 1st of September 2025. Failure to do that, the police can trust us to arrest them ourselves and present them to the police on or before the 2nd of September 2025.
The NDC was officially invited to the one-week commemoration on Friday with a gold-plated card. The national chairman, Hon Johnson Asiedu Nketia, led a delegation of national, regional, members of parliament, constituency, branch, and the parliamentary candidates for Akwatia, Hon Bernard Bediako to represent the party at the event, only to be attacked by a mob insisting that the candidate would not be allowed to enter the funeral grounds.
This unfortunate incident by the NPP caused the widow of Ernest Kumi to break down in tears, seeing such distasteful things at her husband’s funeral. Those who knew Ernest Kumi would understand the emotional trauma her husbands party placed her.
The NDC demands a speedy action from the police. Else, they may have incidents to deal with on or before the day of the election.
The people captured by the lenses of the media are known in the communities of Boadua, Wenchi, Akwatia, and its surrounding villages.
The police can not be seen speeding up arrest and prosecutions when it comes to the NDC and being lackadaisical when it comes to NPP. We are ready to cooperate with the police from this evening till the evening of Sunday if they call on us. Anything less than this will see us helping them in their duties on Monday and Tuesday.
Signed
Godwin Ako Gunn
Deputy Communication Officer
