The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso East constituency, in the Greater Accra Region, Mahama Naser Toure, has suddenly passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, after a period of illness.
The late MP, who was serving his 4th term in Parliament, on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), turned 60 years in March 2025.
Toure held several key roles in Parliament, including Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee, and member of the Roads and Transport Committee, House Committee, and the Private Members’ Bills and Motions Committee.
Following his passing, his body has been taken to his residence at Spintex in Accra, where the family is holding a meeting to finalise arrangements for the burial and funeral rites in accordance with Muslim customs and traditions.
Meanwhile, scores of mourners have gathered at the residence to offer condolences, paying tribute to the late lawmaker’s contributions to his constituency and the nation.
Friends and sympathizers are already sharing tributes in his memory. Akim Swedru lawmaker, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, described him as a gentle soul.
“Hon. Naser Mahama Toure I’m shocked about your demise. Just last 3 days you sent a New Year message to your colleague members of the Roads & Transportation Committee, little did we know that was going to be your last conversation with us? May your gentle soul rest peacefully in the bosom of your maker”, he said.
The janazah prayers for Toure are scheduled to be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., after which the body will be laid to rest.
