The newly elected NDC parliamentary candidate for the East Ayawaso Constituency, Baba Jamal has denied allegations of vote buying following the party’s recent parliamentary primaries.
Reacting to a statement that announced his recall as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal said the claims being circulated about his conduct during the primaries were untrue.
“I wish to state categorically that I, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, have not engaged in any vote buying or election malpractices,” he said in a press release.
He was responding to an earlier statement issued by the Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu and referenced an earlier communication from the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, which condemned the allegations and called for investigations.
Baba Jamal said he had no objection to the party probing the matter, making it clear that he was ready to cooperate fully as the issue is investigated.
“I pledge to avail myself to assist the party in its investigation into the subject matter anytime,” he stated.
Addressing his recall from Nigeria, Baba Jamal expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve the country, describing the appointment as a great honour.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank H.E. the President for the honour done me and the opportunity to serve my country as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria,” he said.
