Member of Parliament Elect for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has described his electoral victory as the start of a new chapter for the constituency, pledging peace, development, and inclusive leadership.
Speaking after the final provisional results were declared, the National Democratic Congress candidate expressed deep gratitude to voters for the confidence reposed in him.
“I want to thank the almighty Allah for giving us this victory, I want to thank all of them for having confidence in me and electing me as their parliamentary candidate elect.”
He noted that the mandate came with responsibility and assured residents that their trust would guide his work in Parliament. In an emotional reflection, Baba Jamal dedicated the victory to his mother, Mimi, describing her as a central figure in his political journey.
He said her encouragement sustained him through years of political setbacks and renewed his resolve to return to Parliament.
“I dedicate this victory to my old mother Mimi for promising to support me and ensuring that one day I will go back to parliament. Today her vision and wish has come true and I thank Allah for her life.”
He also acknowledged the sacrifices of his wife and children, thanking them for enduring the pressures that accompanied his political comeback.
The MP Elect praised the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for standing by him throughout the campaign, expressing appreciation to the party’s national executives, the Greater Accra Regional Executives, and the Ayawaso East Constituency Executives for their coordination and support.
He also singled out grassroots supporters, particularly those from Akwatia, who travelled in large numbers to campaign with him. “I want to thank all my people who came in their numbers to support this project,” he said, describing the victory as a collective effort built on loyalty and perseverance.
Baba Jamal also acknowledged the President for entrusting him with a diplomatic assignment in Nigeria prior to the elections, saying the experience broadened his outlook and prepared him for more effective parliamentary service.
“Those few months that I stayed in Nigeria have added to my experience, which I am taking to parliament to serve this country better,” he stated.
He assured constituents that the lessons gained would be reflected in his legislative priorities and advocacy.
Central to his message was a pledge to transform the constituency. According to Baba Jamal, his election marks the beginning of a reset for Ayawaso East, with a focus on development, peace, and responsiveness to community needs.
“The resetting of East Ayawaso starts now. We are going to parliament to reset the whole constituency and ensure that what East Ayawaso deserves comes to pass.”
He stressed that development must be inclusive and grounded in listening to residents across all communities. The MP Elect commended the media for their role during the campaign, noting the persistence of journalists who followed the process closely.
He called for a constructive partnership with the press as he began his term in Parliament.
“Please correct us when we are wrong, but do it in a good and proper professional way,” he said, adding that accountability and transparency would be essential to rebuilding trust and achieving sustainable progress.
Baba Jamal highlighted the peaceful conduct of both the party primaries and the general election, noting that no incidents of violence or criminality were recorded. He said this marked a turning point in the narrative surrounding Ayawaso East and Nima.
“Our primaries went on peacefully, not even one incident,” he said. “We have had the general election, and not even a single violent incident was recorded.”
He described this as evidence that residents are peace-loving and committed to democratic values.
The MP Elect thanked religious and traditional leaders for their prayers and guidance, including the National Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, noting that their support contributed to the peaceful outcome and strengthened community unity.
“There is going to be a new East Ayawaso. We will rebrand East Ayawaso with a new face of peace, development, and professionalism, and inshallah we shall achieve that.”
Baba Jamal concluded by reaffirming his commitment to listen to all residents, from market traders to youth in informal settlements. He said his vision is to rebrand Ayawaso East with a new identity rooted in peace, development, and professionalism.
He assured grassroots supporters that he would remain accessible and responsive, just as they stood by him during difficult times.
Provisional results from the Electoral Commission showed the National Democratic Congress securing 10,803 votes, representing 63.33 percent of valid ballots cast.
The New Patriotic Party polled 4,000 votes, accounting for 23.45 percent, while other candidates received a combined total of 2,254 votes, representing 13.26 percent. A total of 122 ballots were rejected.
As he settles back into the legislative chamber, expectations are high among residents who hope the promised “reset” will translate into tangible improvements in their daily lives.
For many in Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal’s victory represents not just a political comeback, but a renewed promise of responsive leadership and accelerated development.
