Dorothy’s Hope Foundation (DHF), in collaboration with it esteem partners, is organizing a two-day events designed to commemorate this year’s breast cancer awareness month, October.
The events, slated for Saturday October 11 and Sunday 19, will see the Foundation, mobilize women and the general public to actively participate in the awareness programmes.
The first programme salted for 11th Annual Eye For Cancer Marathon 2025, alias Walkathon, will begin at the Cantonments Post Office and will end at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), near Tema Station on Saturday, October 11.
There will be a community walk, featuring survivor-led moments, wellness engagement, on-site health information and screenings, and solidarity across Ghanaian and diaspora groups, schools, as well as corporate teams.
The second event, Serving Up Hope, a tennis tournament, will take place at the Burma Camp Sports Complex in Accra is also to support cancer awareness.
There will be free breast cancer screening at the pink tennis tournament. Entry fee is GHS300 and all proceeds will be given to breast cancer patients.
Stressing on the importance of this year’s awareness programme, organizers underscored the fact that in Ghana, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women.
Insisting that early detection saves lives, yet too many women, lack affordable screening. By walking, sponsoring, or attending, participants join a global movement for women’s wellness and solidarity.
In a press release ahead of the events, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dorothy’s Hope Foundation, Dorothy Awuah, who happens to be a breast cancer survivor, said these events would bring participants close to activities, such as prevention and screening for one of the silent and leading causes of deaths among women in Ghana.
“Every step and every serve tells a story of resilience,” “These events rally our communities around prevention, early screening, and the dignity of care for women across Ghana.”
Kisha Bird, Founder of Travel Deeper Inc. and partner, who is a member of the diaspora community, expressed excitement about the collaboration. She said, they are ready to offer all the support to ensure women are able to get all the information and care they need.
“We’re proud to stand with Dorothy’s Hope to spotlight women’s wellness year-round,” said “Our diaspora community is ready to walk together, serve together, and ensure more women can access the information and care they need”, she said.
Similarly, founder of the Grow, Unit, Build, Africa (GUBA) Foundation, Lady Dentaa Amoateng, said they were glad to be part of this year’s event as helping create awareness is a bold step to saving lives. The latest diplomatic holder, expressed grave concern about how many Ghanaian women are limited when it comes to early detection and affordable care.
“Far too many women in Ghana face barriers to early detection and affordable care. That is why we are proud to partner in this effort—walking together, amplifying the message, and ensuring that women know their health matters. Together, we can shift the narrative, expand access, and build stronger, healthier communities.”
