Bryan Acheampong Confesses ‘Bribing’ NPP Constituency Executives With $1,500 Each For Bawumia

Member of Parliament (MP) for the Abetifi constituency in the Eastern Region, Bryan Acheampong, continues to brag about how he has single handedly funded past presidential aspirants, the immediate past flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to Acheampong, who is now a presidential aspirant, in the last Super Delegates election, in 2023, he had to pay as much as $1, 500 each to all constituency executives.

For him, he did this to ensure that the then Vice President and flagbearer aspirant Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emerged tops during the Super Delegates election that saw Ken Agyapong come second and Alan Kyerematen third forcing him to later leave the party to form the Movement for Change.

The MP, who is on regional tour, ahead of the presidential primary, slated for January 31, 2026, said the money he spent during the Bawumia Campaign for President was more than what he spent to ensure President Akufo-Addo became president.

Stressing on his financial contributions to the NPP, the former Minister for Food and Agriculture, who has stoked religious and tribal debate, asserted that Bawumia spent nothing during the 2024 election.

He maintained that he had to spend so much while the presidential candidate spent not even a damn for his own campaign which saw him lose miserably in the December 2024 general election.

In the few minutes clip, the MP and former Minister said speaking to Eastern Regional delegates said “Dr. Bawumia’s primary in 2023, he didn’t bring a penny. In Eastern Region. I paid every penny for him to become flagbearer for this party; he didn’t pay a penny. All the constituency executives, and everybody collected how much?

The primary in 2023, everybody collected $1,500 for Super Delegates. Every executive collected $1,500 during the Super Delegates Conference. In 2023, I am telling you that I founded Dr Bawumia more than I founded Akufo-Addo”.

The video of the meeting which is topping discussions and trends also discussed how he was confronted by Akufo-Addo at the One Week commemoration of the Asantehemaa, in Kumasi.

He said, the former President enquired from him if he indeed said that he has funded the NPP more than anyone else since its formation which he said he responded in the affirmative.

“Yesterday, I was in Kumasi for Asante queen mother’s One Week, I met President Akufo-Addo at a dinner and he asked me that “they said you have funded the party more than everyone else” and “I said yes, because in 2017, you said I was the single largest contributor of you coming to power. You said it and it is a fact:”

He went on to say that,In 2024, I am telling you that I founded Dr Bawumia more than I even funded Akufo-Addo. Yes! I am happy that two third of the people here are from the Eastern Region.”
