The youth of Builsa South District in the Upper East Region, have rejected the lack of development in their area, after years of standing alone as a district.
They say, for several years, development has been far from them, stressing that, they have nothing to show when it comes to especially road, schools, among others.
In the entire district, they lament, there is no tarred road neither a tertiary institution, something they want changed especially at this time that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is back in government.
At a recent event to demand for their fair share of the national cake, the Builsa Youth Association (BYA)-Accra called on the Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Clement Apaak and District Chief Executive (DCE) Anne Musah and government as a whole to make this dream a reality.
They said the district can no longer wait, deprived of development after it was carved from the Builsa North District.
Chairman of the Association Philip Akumasi Galisi said as a leader, he is committed and determined to lead his people as a pressure group to ensure they intensify their crusade to demand what rightfully belongs to them.
Confirming claims that the district lacks critical social amenities and infrastructure such as tarred road and tertiary school, Galisi regrettably admitted the state of their roads saying even though pressure has been brought on duty bearers the situation has remained the same.
He was however quick to add that, they are going to continue to pile pressure until they are able to satisfy themselves that, they have succeeded in their agenda to make their district better from what it is today.
“Very true. It is true. It sounds strange but that is the truth and we have been voting, been part of governance structure all these years. They will tell us they are doing their best but for us their best is not enough because what we want we are not getting. But we are not giving up on them that is why we making the clarion call using this platform to get to them to let them know that this that we have started with them it is still on our hearts.”
Formed some four years ago, the Builsa Youth Association in Accra says though young, it is on course to lead the charge for development of the district.
The well attended programme brought together, members from parts of Accra to first inaugurate the leadership of the newly elected executives, who have a 4-year term.
The event was also used to raise funds to acquire an anesthesia machine for the district hospital.
William Adjabui, an experienced Industrial Pharmacist and Public Health Supply Chain expert, who served as chairman for the occasion, asserted that the under development of the district is no longer something that should be delayed further.
He said, even though they have been shortchanged, he said the time has come for the youth to put intense pressure on leadership to give Builsa South it due.
Adjabui said the time for the district to get it share of the national cake is now adding that having the Education Minister and his deputy and MP, coming from the north, is something that should translate into development.
Aside the bad roads, he also strongly lamented about the lack of tertiary institution saying as a fully blown district Builsa South it was not fair it has no tertiary institution.
He urged the Education Minister Haruna Idrissu and his deputy and MP for the area Dr Apaak, to ensure the dream of having this educational infrastructure is realized, to enhance and elevate quality education delivery.
He also urged the Association to have a second look at it constitution to enable them attract more members and become a force to reckon with by looking at the name of the and also others things contained in it which do not inure to the agenda they are pursing.
The DCE and the MP even though were invited, they could not honour the invitation to the event held at the Accra Technical University.
