The Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) is set to officially launch preparations for its highly anticipated 2026 convention in Ghana, marking a significant milestone in strengthening ties between the Ewe diaspora and their homeland.
The launch event, scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Auditorium in Ho, is expected to draw traditional leaders, government officials, and members of the Ewe diaspora and, will outline plans for the international gathering and highlight the cultural, economic, and developmental opportunities the convention presents for Ghana.
According to organizers, the convention will bring together hundreds of Ewes from across the United States and Canada under the umbrella of CEANA, a body that unites Ewe associations in North America to promote cultural identity, development, and unity among Ewe communities worldwide.
Officials say the 2026 convention in Ghana will serve as a homecoming for members of the diaspora, offering them an opportunity to reconnect with their roots while contributing to development initiatives in their ancestral communities.
Speaking ahead of the launch, CEANA representative for West Africa, Torgbi Agbelorm-Agbotokor II, indicated that the event would focus not only on celebrating Ewe culture but also on exploring investment opportunities, youth empowerment programmes, and partnerships aimed at supporting development in Ewe-speaking areas.
“The convention will be more than a cultural celebration. It will also serve as a platform for dialogue, development partnerships, and strengthening the bond between Ewes at home and those in the diaspora,” Torgbi Agbelorm-Agbotokor II said.
The gathering is also expected to feature cultural exhibitions, traditional music and dance performances, and discussions on the preservation of the Ewe language and heritage.
Traditional leaders from the Volta Region and other Ewe communities in West Africa are expected to play prominent roles during the launch and subsequent convention activities.
Observers say hosting the CEANA convention in Ghana underscores the growing influence of the diaspora in promoting cultural diplomacy and supporting local development efforts.
The launch is expected to set the stage for a series of activities leading up to the main convention in August, 2026, which organizers believe will further strengthen unity among Ewes across the globe while projecting the rich cultural heritage of the Ewe people onto the international stage.
