IMANI Africa’s Petition to CHRAJ gains traction
By Philip Antoh
The spotlight has now shifted to the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensah, following the recent suspension of the Chief Justice which sparked a wave of reactions. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and others hit the streets in protest, and now IMANI Africa’s Vice President, Mr. Kofi Bentil, has launched a decisive move against her.
Speculation is rife on traditional and social media regarding the fate of the Electoral Commission (EC) boss, with IMANI’s petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) calling for an investigation into her activities and demanding accountability.
The burning question on everyone’s lips is, will IMANI’s petition pave the way for more challenges against her, possibly leading to suspension and dismissal?
Mr. Bentil’s petition to CHRAJ isn’t just about replacing individuals at the commission; it’s about demanding institutional accountability. He emphasized that IMANI’s goal is to ensure transparency and accountability in public institutions.
Speaking about the petition, Mr. Bentil stressed the need for accountability from the Electoral Commission, citing past conflicts and court orders that have not been adhered to. “We are after institutional accountability, not just personnel changes,” he emphasized on social media.
IMANI’s petition to CHRAJ, dated May 4, calls for an investigation into the EC’s actions related to the retirement and disposal of election equipment, alleging misappropriation and misuse of resources. The petition urges CHRAJ to intervene based on constitutional mandates and responsibilities.
With the unfolding events, the focus now shifts to Jean Mensah as IMANI Africa leads the charge for transparency and accountability within the Electoral Commission.
