The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that it will conduct by-elections across the country for Assembly and Unit Committee members on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
The exercise follows vacancies created by the resignation or death of some local representatives, in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
In a press release signed by the Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission indicated that the nomination process will begin on Monday, October 6, and end on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Nomination forms will be available free of charge at all district offices of the Electoral Commission and can also be downloaded from the Commission’s website, www.ec.gov.gh/forms.
According to the statement, submission of nomination forms will take place from Monday, October 13, to Thursday, October 16, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
Candidates are required to submit four copies of the completed forms together with two recent passport-sized photographs with a red background.
For the Electoral Area elections, the forms must be endorsed by a proposer, a seconder, and 18 registered voters residing in the area.
For the Unit Committee elections, the endorsement should come from a proposer, a seconder, and eight other registered voters from the same area.
All submissions must be made personally by the candidate or through their proposer or seconder to the Returning Officer of the respective Electoral Area.
The by-elections will take place in more than 1,500 polling stations across various regions, including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Central, Eastern, Bono, Ahafo, Western, Western North, and other parts of the country.
Some of the key districts and communities to be covered include Ablekuma Central, Weija-Gbawe, La-Nkwantanang, and Adenta in the Greater Accra Region; Cape Coast, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, and Mfantseman in the Central Region; Jomoro, Ellembelle, Nzema East, and Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region; Asuogyaman, Yilo Krobo, Suhum, and New Juaben in the Eastern Region; Adansi South, Obuasi Municipal, Bosomtwe, and Offinso North in the Ashanti Region; as well as Keta, Ketu South, Ho, and Afadjato South in the Volta Region.
A comprehensive list of all vacant Electoral Areas and Unit Committees, together with their respective polling stations, has been made available by the Commission at its district offices and online.
The Electoral Commission has encouraged all eligible citizens to actively participate in the upcoming by-elections and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the process.
The EC further advised candidates and voters to contact their Returning Officers or visit the nearest district office of the Electoral Commission for additional information.
