A former player of the senior national team, the Black Stars, Edwin Kwabena Gyimah has been left desperate and homeless as his 8-bedroom house at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, has been hijacked by his family.
The big house which is now in contention is occupied by his mother, siblings and even in-laws.
This became public after he dragged the family to popular courtroom-style radio show, ‘Oyerepa Afutuo’ on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi, revealing the ordeal his family has taken him, denying him all that belongs to him including cars.
According to him, he initially travelled to South Africa to look for a club but he was unsuccessful in his search.
After the failed attempts, he decided to return home only to be met with stiff opposition from his family who are occupying in all the rooms, without leaving even one for him and his family.
He believes his repeated setbacks may be spiritually motivated, reason he decided to come home to seek help from his family only to be left homeless.
Apparently, the family has shared the rooms to themselves to the point that his elder sister is currently occupying in there with her husband while he is currently lodging in a hotel with his family.
He said all attempts to evict them from the property have failed, forcing him run to Oyerepa Afutuo which has promised to get his property back.
In tears, Gyimah narrated how he has suffered in the hands of his family who treated him like nobody even at the time he was playing active football.
He disclosed an instance food meant for him was served on the bare floor with flies hovering around. He gave his sister a week’s ultimatum to leave the house.
The former Ghanaian international blamed his mother, who is now down with stroke for the disrespect he has suffered indicating despite that, all he did as a player was to make sure she was comfortable in life.
“During the time I was playing for Black Stars whenever I came home, the food you gave me was on the floor with flies hovering around it. I refused to eat because I eat better food in my hotel. Do you know the food I eat at home, do you know the food my wife prepares for me. Instead of you my sisters who I have built house and you are living to treat me with dignity and show appreciation you rather want to regard me as nobody. Even my own car I have to ask permission. Kwabena, you did not ask permission before using the car mommy will be angry. You ain’t the one that plays the football for me. I should ask permission? All these things I had to stop them. Feli, you and maame. Maame whom I love with all my heart is sitting there unconcerned. Maame, no one loves you like I do. All the things I did was for you, all my tears were for you. I recall when we were going to play against Kotoko remembered that my mother was begging on the street so I cried like a baby. Today if I call her she doesn’t mind me. She is also part, she is the reason. She takes from me then you will also take it from her. .
I am giving you one week, you will sleep outside like I am doing, you will pay rent so you know how it feels.
He alleged that one of his sisters has demanded he sign over the house documents in exchange for GH¢50,000, and claims his family became hostile after he refused.
The 35-year old further alleged that his family may have played a role in his struggles over the years and is demanding the immediate eviction of all relatives living in the house, including his mother.
When the station called one of his sisters whose name was given only as Afia, she rudely reacted to his position that he is coming for the house. Speaking on top of her voice, Afia asked him to come for the house.
“If he has the right to his house give it to him, has anyone stopped him?” she rudely told hostess Auntie Naa.
