Several hours after missing out on winning what would have been his first ever Ballon D’Or Award, FC Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal has broken his silence.
The youngster finished second in the 2025 Ballon D’Or rankings behind French international winger Ousmane Dembele; Dembele described winning the award as a “dream come true”.
Yamal scored 18 goals and added 25 assists in 55 games in all competitions for Barcelona in the 2024-2025 season and Yamal’s Ballon D’Or miss angered his father who tagged the development as the “biggest moral damage done to a human being”.
After Dembele was announced as the winner of the Ballon D’Or, Yamal had a serious look on his face and his silence after the ceremony drew a ton of speculation regarding his reaction but Yamal broke his silence on social media with a different view.

“God’s plan is perfect, you have to climb to reach the top. Happy for the Kopa Trophy and congratulations to Ousmane Dembele for the award and a great season” Yamal wrote on his Instagram page.

Despite missing out on winning the Ballon D’Or, Lamine Yamal won the Kopa Trophy-the best young men’s footballer of the year award- and moved from his eighth placed ranking in the 2024 Ballon D’Or to second place in the 2025 rankings.
