The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Cdr. Mawutor Agbavitor, has called for governance at all levels to remain open, inclusive and transparent, stressing that the active involvement of citizens and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) is critical to the growth of democracy and sustainable development.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement with Progressive Civil Society Organisations on Monday in Ho, the chairman noted that good governance thrives when leaders are accountable to the people and decision-making processes are not shrouded in secrecy.
According to him, transparency in governance builds public trust and confidence in state institutions, while inclusiveness ensures that every segment of society, regardless of political affiliation, gender, age, or social status, has a voice in national development.
“Governance must remain open, inclusive and transparent if we are to deepen our democracy and guarantee equitable development for all,” he stated,
emphasizing that the people of the Volta Region and Ghanaians at large deserve leadership that listens, consults widely, and responds to their needs and aspirations.

The chairman further underscored the need for public officials to uphold the principles of accountability, integrity and fairness in the discharge of their duties, adding that development can only be meaningful when it reflects the collective will of the people.
He urged political leaders, traditional authorities, civil society organisations and the media to work together in promoting openness and responsible governance.
“Development is a shared responsibility. We need to carry the people along in every policy and programme so that they feel a sense of ownership,” he said.

Mawutor Agbavitor also called on citizens to actively participate in governance by demanding accountability from leaders and contributing constructively to public discourse.
Agbavitor’s remarks come at a time when issues of transparency, public accountability and citizen participation continue to dominate national conversations on governance and democratic consolidation.

Some participants at the engagement, welcomed the chairman’s comments, describing them as timely and necessary in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting peace and unity in the region and Ghana as a whole.
His call for openness and inclusiveness is expected to resonate strongly among party supporters and the general public as the country continues to pursue reforms aimed at improving governance systems.
