The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku, has revealed that the government will officially kick off the Nkoko Nkitinkiti poultry program later this month to enhance local poultry production and lessen reliance on imports.
During an appearance on ‘Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen’ Show, Mr. Opoku detailed that the initiative will assist poultry farmers across the nation with feed, fertilizer, and other resources to improve productivity.
He mentioned that 50 “anchor farmers” have been selected nationwide to receive 80,000 birds each, aiming to produce four million birds.
“We support poultry farming by providing feed and other resources. The National Service Scheme (NSS) poultry farm intends to expand its operations, and we are helping by supplying feed, fertilizer, and further assistance. We will officially launch this initiative this month.
“The president aims to ensure a plentiful poultry supply in the country, so we are concentrating on three main actions. First, we have identified 50 farmers nationwide, whom we refer to as ‘anchor farmers,’ he stated.
Additionally, 500 medium-scale farmers will be given between 1,000 and 3,000 birds to grow their businesses.
“We will supply them with 80,000 birds, which the government will provide. As they earn profits, they will repay the government. Our objective is for them to produce 4 million birds.
“Furthermore, we have identified 500 medium-scale farmers who will each receive between 1,000 and 3,000 birds. We have already run a pilot program for them,” he added.
