Afrobeat musician, King Promise has attributed his debut Artiste of the Year award at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards to his dedication and hard work in the year under review.
Following his significant victory, the “Paris” hitmaker in an interview on TV3’s New Day, May 12 believes his unwavering perseverance and commitment to producing excellent music are what earned him the prestigious award.
“I believe my work spoke for itself. I try to make sure I always put the music first. Whatever shenanigans follow, it’s really secondary for me. In the year under review, my album that I dropped has done extremely well,” he said.
King Promise also revealed that he had remained positive throughout the award season, never allowing any negative thoughts about not being able to win the biggest award.
“I don’t put that kind of energy in the air, you know. I try to stay positive. Why put it in the air that ‘if I don’t win’? I don’t believe in the hearsay. It’s really how I felt (about winning),” he added.
When asked about the competition in the Artiste of the Year category, the singer praised his fellow nominees and described the competition as healthy rather than a rivalry.
“Healthy competition, for me, it’s not rivalry because everyone who was nominated for the award definitely deserves to be there. For it to be something of a success, it had to be something of a challenge,” he said.
