IGP Yohuno makes sweeping police transfers, including 2 officers in leaked tape saga

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reassigned 84 senior police officers across the country, with some sent out of the Police Headquarters to outstations and vice versa.

Those reposted include Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, who have been sent to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Judicial Protection Unit, respectively.

The two officers were implicated in the controversial leaked tape that detailed a plot to remove former Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

They consequently appeared before the parliamentary committee that investigated the controversy to answer questions about their professionalism vis-à-vis the Ghana Police Service regulations. The committee recommended that the officers be made to face disciplinary action.

Myjoyonline sources within the Police Service say the postings of the two in particular have been perceived in certain quarters as promotions rather, and therefore a tacit approval of their alleged misconduct, and potentially setting a concerning precedent.

COP George Alex Mensah, who became central in the controversy, has since retired from the Police Service and recently urged Mr. Yohuno to address unfair promotions within the Service.
