Majority leader Mahama Ayariga, has made light of the victory chalked by former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, after emerging winner of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.
The Bawku Central constituency Member of Parliament (MP), likened the victory to a journey to nowhere because the presidential candidate will lose again in 2028 just as he did in 2024.
Ayariga said this in his opening speech to welcome colleague MPs from recess on Tuesday, February 3 on the floor of Parliament.
The Minority side Tuesday thronged the chamber clad in all white, apparently in celebration of the victory of Dr Bawumia, who last Saturday, January 31, won the presidential primary securing 56 percent of the valid votes.
Before arriving at the chamber, the NPP MPs visited the new flagbearer at his private residence in Accra to congratulate him.
Delivering the speech, the majority leader said he was happy to see his colleagues on the other side of the house in white, revealing he was also sharing in their excitement reason he wore white to join them in the celebration.
He was however quick to note that, their joy is going to be short lived because Dr Bawumia will be defeated gain in the 2028 election.
He was emphatic that the former vice president will be defeated in any future election as long as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in involved.
“I am joining them to celebrate today because the Bawumia that I know NDC will beat him any day”, he said amid laughter.
The house is back from the Christmas break for the first sitting of the first meeting of the second session of parliament
