By Gifty Boateng

In the spirit of transparency and accountability, the government will today Monday, July 14, begin what it calls ‘Government Accountability Series’.

The initiative is aimed getting the various sector ministers account and update the citizens their stewardship over the past six (6) months, while divulging their initial views of the administration’s performance so far pertaining to their individual sectors.

The series will be held three times a week beginning Monday to Wednesday at 11 a.m

Minister for government communications and spokesperson to President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who disclosed this said the first to speak to the nation will be the Minister for the Interior Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.

The Minister who also doubles as the supervisory authority at the National Security, have the responsibility of informing the country, the situation when it comes to internal security, just as the president tasked him in March when he was sworn in.

In a social media post, Kwakye Ofosu recalled President Mahama’s exact words when he swore-in as the Minister months ago.

“Hon. Muntaka, Minister for the Interior, you will have the responsibility for ensuring internal security and I know it is a task you will live up to”, he quoted the President as saying.

He added “These were President Mahama’s words to the Minister for the Interior when he swore him into office on 30th January, 2025.

Tomorrow, he accounts for his stewardship in the last six months at the Government Accountability Series”.

Under his watch, Ghanaian continue to be peaceful except a few internal skirmishes and conflicts here and there. Even though the situation at Bawku in the Upper East has relatively been calm, it is expected that he will give update on it and where the Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene who was tasked by the president to mediate has reached so far.

He will also be expected to speak to issues in the Oti Region specifically Nkwatia where there have been disputes pockets of issues leading to deaths and attacks and destruction of properties.

Many especially the youth, will be looking forward to hearing from the minister, on issues concerning a self-styled so-called Egbo chief in Ghana, Chukwudu Jude Ihenetu, who boasted in an interview that he has bought 50 acres of land to develop an ‘Egbo village’ in the Old Ningo area for only his people.

He has since made a U-turn and the Ningo chiefs who allegedly sold the land to him have denied such move and called on the authority to investigate the issue and bring Ghanaians up to speed.

Even though the matter is yet to hit traditional media as desired, it is a big thing on social media leading to the issuance of statements from the Nigerian’s office and that of the chiefs.

He was alleged to have been inducted into the Ga Traditional Council but due to the strong objection raised recent on the internet, the chiefs have reportedly disowned him by removing same from their books.

Many youth have resisted his intention saying he cannot be a king in Ghana and build a kingdom for his people, fearing he may eventually import the unrest and insecurity in Nigeria to Ghana.

They have threatened to carry out series of actions against him if he goes ahead to perpetuate his plans.

Then finally, the recent violence at the Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Electoral Commission (EC) rerun on Friday July 11, where unknown men attacked some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members including former Member of Parliament and ex-Minister for Fisheries, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

Even though government including the vice president, Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, has condemned it, the Minister is likely to touch on it.
