His Show Has Become Propaganda Outlet Of NPP – Ex-Viewer, Minister For Gov’t Comm.
Minister for Government Communications and spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, has given his honest opinion and review about Metro Television’s Good Evening Ghana programme hosted by Paul Adom Otchere.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the programme has become a one sided propaganda tool for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) which hitherto used not to be the case. He said the days when the programme featured well-read resource persons who come on the programme to educate discerning viewers have fizzled out.
He observed that the programme took a downward trend the moment Akufo-Addo took office as President.
He told the prime time show host in the face that the once must watched programme has become the toast of only NPP supporters and members indicating it has evolved in the wrong direction.
He said in as much as he respects divergent views what the host has turned the programme leaves much to be desired.
“What you do these days cannot pass for the credible leading current affairs programme on TV. My nature I am liberal in my thinking so I am able to disagree with people and still respect what they stand for I respected it”, he said.
According to the Abrah Asebu Kwamankessi (AAK) constituency Member of Parliament (MP), as an ardent viewer, he stopped watching the programme because currently “It looks more like NPP saturated show these days than the top leading current affair show that we had decades ago. Paul would have to explain. When I started politics, I was an active listener and even if I disagreed with your positions on issues I respected it”.
The Minister made the strong observation and criticism when he shared the platform with the seasoned broadcaster on the station’s Good Morning Ghana programme hosted by Moro Awudu on Friday October 10, 2025.
Speaking directly to the former Board Chair of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), Kwakye Ofosu said he was excited that his colleague panel member has now shown his face and speaking for the opposition party.
He said it no secret that Adom Otchere sympathizes with the NPP and he cannot fault him for that but tailoring the programme to do their bidding was something he sees as going too far.
“That Paul is a known NPP, he’s never hidden it, it is not something that has not been known but we still respected the platform that he has Good Evening Ghana leading figures, luminaries leading figures in society everybody who matter, anybody who was anybody in this our socio-cultural setting appeared to discuss important national matters.
Then before long especially when President Akufo-Addo rose to power suddenly the thing has become NPP outlet where bizarre sometimes outrageous propaganda is churned out.
I mean these days he will go and pick Facebook post of an NPP propagandist and come and brandish as fact and if you are not lucky you will be dressed down on that show without any opportunity to respond. So clearly, it is not what it used to be and it has nothing to the fact that he is NPP, let me establish that.
The NPP is not is a secret cult if you belong to the NPP. And it is also okay that now he has closed the loophole and he is now representing them on TV, great!”
He suggested a relook at the programme to bring back it past glory emphasizing that “currently it is not and surely it cannot be a programme that is enjoying great rating it is not”.
The Minister and MP rejected Adom Otchere’s initial position that contrary to his opinion, the show has more viewership and trends than it used to be. He said what he is relying on as rise in viewership are NPP sympathizers who are pleased to have one of their own speak on their behalf on prime time period. He added that the biasness of the show is a huge cost to the station.
“Great rating among his NPP supporters. Why not? If you have an outlet on TV, prime time on TV you will watch it as an NPP supporter so I think that he should watch it carefully otherwise it is a huge loss to your station I must say because people really tuned in.
I watched it religiously because the quality of the discussion was great. I mean the likes of the late Akoto Osei will come and you will disagree but you will respect the authority that he brought. These days that is not, its NPP propagandist, one sided narratives.
When the host intervened to say programmes evolved Kwakye Ofosu rebutted “It has evolved in wrong direction to be honest. Of course but it is an opinions that many many people will share”.
Even though Adom Otchere was defensive and tried to shot down the Minister’s view in the beginning, he in his rebuttal acknowledged the views expressed as important feedback.
“That is fine, that is an opinion that you have but as far as we are concerned our rating is better now. It is general, it is a matter of fact”, he said when the Minister said the rating has everything to do with NPP supporters and not Ghanaians in general.
He went on “I see the minister described himself as a former viewer. We have put together a product so we do as much as we can that the product is improving Good Evening Ghana has been running since 2001 up until now. We believe that we are still the topmost current affairs programme every Tuesday and Thursday that is what we believe. However, an important person like MP and Minister describes himself as a former viewer and that he doesn’t like the format of the programme anymore because it is not just political but it is comical, it doesn’t raise the real issues, it doesn’t analyze, we take that as feedback.”
He explained further that the programme has always been there for everyone and that anytime anyone offered to explain their side of the issue, he obliged them.
He mentioned the classical cases of the late MP and Minister for Environment Science and Technology Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Deputy General Secretary and Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency Mustapha Gbandi.
