The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Julius Debrah, has urged the Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) and the media at large to endorse the government’s 24-hour economy initiative, characterizing it as a means to enhance productivity and generate employment in the future.
Mr. Debrah made this appeal on Thursday, October 2, 2025, during the 75th anniversary cake-cutting ceremony of the Daily Graphic in Accra.
He commended Graphic for its perseverance over the years and encouraged the company to influence public opinion in support of the government’s vision.
“The idea of a 24-hour economy is logical. Essentially, it requires us to create methods and systems to boost productivity,” he stated.

He further noted that a wider national acceptance of this concept could elevate Ghana’s gross domestic product and increase job opportunities.
Mr. Debrah urged the GCGL to utilize its platforms to prepare Ghanaians for this transition. “Set aside political differences and let us welcome this concept as a positive development. If we implement it correctly, it will significantly benefit our nation,” he remarked.
He also recognized the concerns expressed by Graphic’s management regarding the limited direct support from the state that the company has experienced over the years. He assured them that this issue would be communicated to the President.
Mr. Debrah praised Graphic for documenting Ghana’s history from the struggle for independence to the current democratic period.
He referred to the company as “a genuine Ghanaian institution whose legacy is intertwined with the very history of our nation.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to media freedom and promised to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the safety of journalists, enhance their skills, and assist traditional media in adapting to the digital age.
“The narrative of Graphic at 75 offers valuable lessons for all media organizations in Ghana; credibility is essential. Graphic has gained the trust of generations by adhering to the principles of accuracy and integrity,” he stated.
Mr Debrah ended by urging the media to remain reliable partners in development. He also congratulated the staff, board and management of GCGL for what he described as “75 years of truth and service to the nation.”
