Hilife musician, Kwabena Kwabena, has expressed his admiration for President John Dramani Mahama for what he has achieved so far during his second term.
According to the artist, he is impressed with the performance of the President even though he did not vote for him.
He maintains that since the president took over, he has performed incredibly well and needs to be applauded for bringing hope to Ghanaians.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Kingdom FM in Accra, the ‘Asor’ singer brushed off a tag that he is a sympathizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said the only reason he campaigned for the party was because he believed in the then candidate and hoped he could turn the lives of Ghanaians around.
Unfortunately, he recalled, this did not happen and so now if another person in the person of President Mahama is offering that hope he’s happen to witness and applaud him.
“I am not NPP, I am Ghanaian. When you put in that way, you promote a little bit of controversy which is not necessary. Listen, the only reason why I supported the then candidate [Akufo-Addo] was because I believed in him that he could make our lives better, the goal was for Ghanaian to be happy.
So, irrespective of who becomes president if he is able to do what Ghanaians want, we will applaud the person. It should not be the case that if you support one person or candidate you should stick to that even if it’s not going well. If we develop a country like that we will all suffer”, he told host Fiifi Pratt.
With admiration, he continued by saying “So yes, I can reiterate that from last year, from the time President Mahama took over, I must commend him. We pray it continues like this so that Ghanaians will have live peacefully”
Touching on calls for the president to seek a third term bid, the talented musician who is on record to have said the NPP used him and dumped him, said if that is what Ghanaians want, it can only be done by changing the constitution.
He however said, he knows the President as an astute politician, is not interested in doing that even though he has no personally spoken to him.
“You know we are governed by laws, we have a constitution that guides us but the constitution doesn’t allow him to contest. But if the majority of people wants or anything of the sort can happen unless there is a referendum to say we should change or should we amend it?
It is a whole lot of process and i have not had a one–on-one encounter and judging from his political career has pan out I don’t think he is somebody that wants to change our constitution. I think he is a very astute gentleman and somebody that has Ghana at heart.”
