President John Dramani Mahama and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, have come through for singer, Dee Aja, who is battling a kidney disease, needing urgent transplant.
The generous brothers have pledged to support Aja who is known for singing campaign songs including popular hit ‘Onaapo’ for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2016 general election.
Even though the song was written by gospel musician Nana Osei famously known as Nacee, it was performed by Aja a member of a defunct music group ‘a skuuul fuo, formed by the former.
The support from the Mahamas follows Aja’s passionate appeal to Ghanaians to come to his aid after he was disguised of the threatening disease last year.
The singer in an interview revealed how he was diagnosed of the disease after he initially visited hospitals thinking he was suffering from malaria. He said after self-mediations he was later informed of the disease.
In the interview, he pleaded with the general public, including the president and his brother, to help save his life by getting a kidney transplant as soon as possible.
“There is truth in it and it is shocking. As I speak to you I am at Korle-Bu to see s dietician who can direct me as to what to eat to live longer. It is serious because I am told the strength of my kidney has reduced to as low as 11 percent from 90 plus so I am told it is only God that can intervene or unless I get kidney transplant as soon as possible.
My hope is lost. Apart from telling Ghanaians who are touched to help me, our leaders, I know you have done it for others if it touches your hearts help me regain my strength I will be the happiest man on earth but as I speak to you I have nothing”, he said.
He revealed that he called a number of party people but the state he is in now, he needs to come out to seek help as no single person can do it alone.
“I have called some of the leaders but those who can respond have done so but where I am now it is not the task of just one or two people’s support. Where I have gotten to if I keep to myself it may be too late because even now what I eat and drink have changed. The doctor told me what the diagnoses said about me don’t even show on my body. He said I should be swollen but I am not in that state and he is surprised so all I seek is support from Ghanaians.”
Speaking directly to the president Aja, who has personal relationship with him said “What I want to tell him is that, knowing how he behaves when he sees us, I know this is a video that will break him down because he loves me so Papa, your son is before you, I need your help, Ibrahim Mahama, Papa, you have done for others so kindly help me…”
The video of his interview, with one blogger named Pendream TV owned by one Stephen Kenneth Nakujah, was apparently seen by the brothers who have gotten in touch with him.
A favourable video of him sighted by The New Republic shows him expressing his utmost gratitude to the president and his brother and owner of Engineers and Planners (E&P).
He indicated how supportive they have been to him stressing that they are the kindest people he has ever met. He prayed for God to continue to bless them and protect them.
“I thank God for meeting the Mahama family, if I had not met them, I don’t know what I would have done. All hope was lost. If I didn’t know people in the NDC I don’t know what would have happened to me. I am not sure I would have been able to come here to speak about my situation. Who would I have called? What they are doing for me I am not the only person they are doing it for everyone. God bless the Mahamas, they are the greatest. They are the kindest people I have met in my life. God bless Mr Ibrahim Mahama, the President and his family, God should protect them and give them wisdom and more love because they are good people”, he said.
