Various Civil Society Organizations with special interest in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, have been invited to the seat of government for deliberations.
The meeting, is slated for Friday October 3, 2025 at 12: 00 noon at the Jubilee House in Accra.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the president Dr Callistus Mahama, the crucial meeting “aims to provide a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between the Government and Civil Society on the menace of illegal mining, with a view to harnessing collective expertise, perspectives and soldiers to address this national challenge”.
The CSOs numbering 59, include the Catholic Bishop Conference, the Christian Council, Office of the Chief Imam, IMANI Ghana, Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, Media Coalition Against Illegal Mining, Eco-Conscious Citzens, University Teachers’ Association.
Others are the Fix The Country Now, Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ghana Bar Association, National Union of Ghana Students, Media Foundation for West Africa, Coalition of CSOs Against Illegal Mining, Institute of Economic Affairs, Ghana Integrity Imitative, Ghana Journalist Association, Small Scale Miners Association of Ghana among others.
