The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, announced that President John Dramani Mahama, has ordered the immediate promotion of all qualified deputy education directors.
This decision comes after the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) threatened to strike on April 30, due to delays in promotions for junior teachers.
At the launch of a sanitary pad distribution program for schoolgirls on April 24, the Minister confirmed that promotions would occur regardless of the current lack of office space or formal postings.
He mentioned that the president acknowledged the challenges deputy directors face in advancing to director positions because of limited office availability.
President Mahama, has instructed the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to ensure these promotions are legitimate, allowing deputy directors to function as directors even without designated offices.
Additionally, the Free Pad initiative supports President Mahama’s goal of promoting gender equality and ensuring all children have access to quality education, regardless of gender or background.
He previously highlighted the need to tackle the challenges girls encounter during menstruation, emphasizing the importance of removing such barriers.
This programme aims to reduce financial strain on families, improve school attendance for girls, and enhance their overall health.
The initiative aims to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment by ensuring that girls have access to essential menstrual hygiene products.
