. Ready To Abandon GUM For NDC
By Philip Antoh
President John Dramani Mahama’s eleven months magical performance of turning round the economy and reaching single digit inflation has shocked the flagbearer and founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Christian Kwabena Andrews, aka Osofo Kyiri Abosom
Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has served notice that if this sterling performance of President Mahama continues, then he has no other option than to abandon his own political party to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview, Osofo Kyiri Abosom commended the president’s leadership, calling Mahama’s initial performance encouraging.
He mentioned that although they have communicated, he has not yet visited the president since the 2024 elections.
“If President Mahama continues to perform well in his role, I would set aside my party, the Ghana Union Movement, and join the NDC. The aim is national development,” he said.
He also proposed that if Mahama keeps up his good work, Ghana might think about changing the constitution to give him an extra four-year term.
Osofo Kyiri Abosom shared that he had previously backed the NDC during the time of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings before starting his own political party, but he emphasizes that his focus is on national advancement rather than party loyalty.
