A GHC10 million defamation suit trumpeted by business magnate Dr. Daniel McKorley, CEO of McDan Group, against David Tamakloe, Managing Editor of The New Republic, has sensationally unraveled, exposing what Tamakloe’s legal team is calling a monumental hoax.
After an Accra High Court granted an order for Substituted Service and the matter was widely publicized, including a prominent notice in the Daily Graphic on May 22, 2025, a shocking truth emerged: the supposed writ of summons is nowhere to be found in the High Court records.
This astonishing development has left Mr. Tamakloe and his legal team bewildered. The very lawsuit that was aggressively promoted and widely reported by various media outlets appears to be a phantom.
Insiders are now suggesting this entire saga was a meticulously orchestrated smear campaign.
The deliberate and widespread publicity, coupled with the missing legal documents, points to a calculated attempt by the business mogul, allegedly backed by powerful figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to silence and intimidate the veteran journalist.
Sources close to the situation believe shadowy personalities behind Dr. McKorley masterminded this charade to tarnish Tamakloe’s reputation.
The genesis of this alleged “hoax” traces back to December 2024, when The New Republic published an article alleging that a “McDan Aviation Aircraft had been Seized in UK Over Unpaid Debts.”
This publication evidently incensed the McDan Group, leading to the widely publicized, yet now seemingly non-existent, legal action.
The absent lawsuit, if it ever genuinely existed, reportedly sought a court declaration that The New Republic’s article was defamatory.
It also demanded that Mr. Tamakloe retract the publication, issue a public apology with equal prominence, publish a formal apology in a national newspaper and on social media, and pay a staggering GHC10 million in general damages.
What is increasingly clear is that no genuine attempt was made to serve a writ of summons on Mr. Tamakloe. Instead, an impression was created by the McDan CEO, allegedly deceiving the High Court into granting an order of substituted service.
Days after Mr. Tamakloe’s legal team entered appearance and meticulously scoured High Court records, the damning conclusion remains: “there is no single document in that high court’s record to show a writ was indeed filed against the defendant making the whole case and its subsequent publication a hoax.”
