The Minister for the Interior and responsible for National Security, Hon. Muntaka-Mohammed Mubarak, has commissioned the Eastern Regional Command of the National Signals Bureau in Koforidua to enhance the country’s national security infrastructure and bolster public safety and security.
The new office is equipped with cutting-edge surveillance technology, which will play a critical role in supporting Government’s 24-hour economy policy and enhance surveillance across the region.
In his keynote address, Hon. Muntaka emphasised that the opening of the office underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to stay ahead of criminals and ensure Ghana remains a haven of peace and stability. He noted that the office will significantly enhance the NSB’s ability to gather and analyse intelligence, respond to security threats, and support law enforcement agencies.
Hon. Mohammed-Mubarak underscored the importance of signals intelligence in combating modern crime, stating, “This facility enables us to lawfully intercept and analyse digital communications, allowing proactive prevention of crimes like kidnapping, fraud, and armed robbery.”
He added that the office will strengthen coordination with other security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Armed Forces, to provide real-time, actionable intelligence.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, expressed joy in hosting the facility, noting its significance for a region facing challenges such as illegal mining, armed robbery, and drug-related crimes. She pledged continued support to ensure the office’s effectiveness in maintaining peace and security across all the districts in the region.
