Gifty Oware Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), has been released from custody after meeting the GH¢10 million bail condition set by the court.
The release was confirmed by the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, during an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday.
Haruna noted that while Gifty Oware has been released, her former superior, former Executive Director of the NSA Osei Assibey Antwi, remains in custody after failing to meet his GH¢800 million bail condition.
“Madam Gifty Oware met her bail condition and has been released, but her boss is still in custody. Eight hundred million, what kind of bail condition is that?” he remarked.
Gifty Oware had pleaded not guilty to charges relating to causing financial loss of over GH¢38 million to the state.
She was formally charged on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at the Accra High Court on five counts, including willfully causing financial loss to the state, stealing, money laundering, and using public office for personal gain.
Prosecutors allege that during her tenure, Oware Mensah created nearly 9,934 fictitious National Service personnel and unlawfully profited from the monthly allowances paid to these non-existent staff.
The government claims these actions caused losses exceeding GH¢38 million.
