On Saturday, February 14, Osman Abdullai Ayariga, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), distributed important tools and equipment to participants of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) in Cape Coast.
This event marked the official handover of equipment to the first group of apprentices in the programme, highlighting the government’s dedication to empowering youth and developing skills. Other notable figures attended the ceremony.
While speaking to the audience, Mr. Ayariga called the event a significant step in providing young people with skills for employment.
“I am here today filled with pride and gratitude as we officially distribute equipment to the first group of beneficiaries. This occasion is a key moment in our shared mission to empower the youth of Ghana, enhance our human resources, and create a strong economy,” he stated.
The beneficiaries received sewing machines, dryers, safety gear, and toolboxes to assist them in their trades.
Mr. Ayariga pointed out that the National Apprenticeship Programme aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto, which focuses on inclusive growth, job creation, and practical skills training.
He emphasized that empowering youth should be viewed as an investment in the future of Ghana, not merely as charity.
The NYA CEO also highlighted the vital importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in promoting industrialization and addressing unemployment.
“By incorporating apprenticeships into our national development strategy, we are closing the gap between education and job opportunities, ensuring that no young Ghanaian is overlooked,” he remarked.
He encouraged master craftsmen, communities, and private sector partners to offer mentorship and create opportunities that would help the apprentices succeed.
In closing, Mr. Ayariga urged the beneficiaries to view the equipment as a foundation for their independence and success.
“For the beneficiaries here today, the equipment you receive is not just a tool – it is a symbol of opportunity, dignity, and independence.
“Today, we plant seeds of resilience, innovation and prosperity. Tomorrow, these seeds will blossom into a nation where every young person has the skills, confidence and opportunity to succeed,” he said.
