Isaac Adonteng, a 54-year old father, is in the grips of the Police for beating his 13-year old daughter to death at Kokrobite a suburb of Accra.
The crime of Celestine Adonteng alias Baby, was that she allegedly ate a meal, left for her younger sibling.
The act was committed while the father, a mason, was away and so when he returned her stepmother reported her to him who did not take kindly to her action.
He allegedly set to teach the teenager a lesson by severely whipping her with cane and metal pipe. In the end, she allegedly got her ribs and other parts of her body broken.
A neighbor informed journalists the family allegedly looked her up and even prepared food and ate when the deceased was still lying down.
“They left the child under the mango tree till the following day and then picked her and dumped in a room in the morning and smeared her body with oil. The child died there and they prepared fufu and ate. He killed Baby and she had broken ribs. He was carrying her and hitting her on the ground like he was bouncing basketball, why? This is not what we say God does what he like, this is what human wishes and that is what he’s done”, one neighbour who helped in arresting Adonteng said.
Another neighbours who spoke to the media said the deceased was always maltreated by her parents and always beaten until her eventual death.
Preliminary investigations by the Weija Divisional Police Command revealed that the suspect allegedly assaulted Celestine with a cane, metallic pipe and other objects. Exhibits seized by the police were metal pipe and other objects.
Auntie of the deceased said this was not the first time he was hitting her niece. She recalled that when her sister was with Adonteng, he always attacked and sometimes used machete so she left. She said when the deceased mother complained to the family they did not listen but rather wanted to reconcile them since they were a couple.
A police statement signed by Head of Public Affairs Accra Region, Juliana Obeng [Supt], said after sustaining multiple injuries, the family did not seek medical care for her but confined her in a room.

“Despite the victim sustaining multiple injuries, the suspect failed to seek medical care and kept her confined in a room. Police, acting on a complaint, proceeded to the residence where the victims was found unconscious. She was rushed to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy”, the release dated on November 20 said.
The police advised parents and guardians to be circumspect while correcting their wards.
