The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza on Wednesday appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), of Parliament to answer questions relating to the operations, projects, and financial activities of his ministry.
During the session, the Minister responded to inquiries from committee members with what observers described as clarity and confidence, earning commendations from both the Committee and sections of the public who followed the proceedings.
Addressing the Committee, Mr. Agbodza stressed the importance of strict adherence to speed limits, especially when motorists drive through towns and villages.
He explained that compliance with approved speed regulations remains the most effective measure to discourage local residents from constructing unauthorized speed ramps on public roads, a practice that often poses safety risks and disrupts smooth traffic flow.
The Minister also provided updates on ongoing reforms at the country’s axle load stations, noting that the measures are designed to enhance efficiency, curb overloading, and promote safer road use across the nation’s highways.
Touching on major infrastructure projects, Mr. Agbodza highlighted the government’s commitment to the completion of the Eastern Corridor Road, which he said will help decongest the Accra–Kumasi Highway and improve connectivity between the southern and northern parts of the country.
Members of the Public Accounts Committee lauded the Minister for his dedication, hard work, and transparency, describing his engagement as a reflection of the Ministry’s commitment to accountability and the government’s broader transformation agenda in the road sector.
