It was drums, data, and digital firepower as Communications Minister Sam George stormed the Tortroyeye Festival in Whuti, dazzling chiefs and crowds with a bold promise to bridge Ghana’s digital divide.
The festival, dubbed “The Diaspora Festival,” wasn’t just a cultural carnival it was a tech-powered homecoming. And Sam George came armed with more than greetings from former President John Mahama. He came with a vision.
“Culture and technology are not enemies they’re allies,” George declared, drawing cheers from the crowd. “It’s time to connect Whuti to Accra, Ghana to the world, and our traditions to tomorrow!”
The theme “Our Future: Bridging the Digital Divide” set the tone, and George didn’t disappoint. He announced Whuti as a future hub for the *One Million Coders Programme*, a game-changing initiative to train youth in coding and digital innovation.
The numbers were stark: *2.6 billion people still offline globally*, with rural communities like Whuti at risk of being left behind. But George vowed to change that with broadband, skills, and bold leadership.
He praised the community’s plan to build an ultra-modern ICT lab, calling it a “legacy project” that would empower generations. He pledged personal support and promised additional backing from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
And there was a personal twist: George’s wife, Vera, is a proud daughter of Whuti. The Minister called the event a homecoming and the crowd responded with warmth and pride.
Togbi Nyaho Tamakloe VI, Paramount Chief of the Kome Shime Traditional Council, hailed George’s commitment to rural transformation and said the festival’s theme captured Whuti’s hunger for progress.
The celebration at Whuti E.P. Primary School Park was a riot of color and culture drumming, dancing, and diaspora pride. But beneath the rhythm was a serious message: Whuti is ready to leap into the digital age.
