A fierce chieftaincy dispute is brewing in the historic town of Awudua, threatening to plunge the seat of the Apinto Traditional Council into chaos.
Reports reaching The New Republic indicate that the succession process for the prestigious Apinto Divisional seat has been compromised, sparking outrage and division among royal families and chiefs.
The conflict centers on the nomination of a new chief from the Faibil family, one of the two royal gates eligible for the stool. According to sources, the Faibil family officially nominated Kwabena Damoah to succeed the late Nana Kwabena Angu II, who ruled for 37 years until his passing in April 2022.
However, in a stunning twist, another name, Famiyeh, has reportedly emerged as the preferred candidate, leading to accusations that the selection process has been manipulated.
Prominent chiefs, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed their shock and frustration at the turn of events. They assert that the sudden appearance of Famiyeh’s name is a blatant violation of traditional customs and procedures.
There is growing concern about the potential spiritual consequences of installing a chief who was not properly selected by the royal family.
As the tension mounts, traditional leaders are vowing to ensure that the correct procedures are followed to prevent conflict.
They stress that the people of Awudua are peace-loving and will not allow a few individuals to create discord over a matter that should be straightforward.
The community, known for its rich history and landmarks like Fort Ruychaver, is hoping for a peaceful resolution to this growing crisis.
