Tragedy: BECE Candidate Dies in Assin Adiembra

A 14-year-old candidate for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Gariba Awudu, has passed away after becoming ill during the ongoing exams at Assin Adiembra in the Central Region.

Awudu, a student at Nnuanua Number 1 Basic School, reportedly exhibited signs of illness during Thursday’s exam.

According to information from Radio Fosu, a local radio station in Assin Fosu, he was taken to the Assin Adiembra CHPS compound for medical assistance after finishing the exam.

However, due to the current nurses’ strike, there were no medical staff available to help him. He was then quickly taken to the Assin Fosu Polyclinic, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

The Assin South District Education Director, Isaac Opoku, called the incident shocking and confirmed that steps are being taken to officially notify Awudu’s parents.

Frederick Agyei, the headteacher of Nnuanua Number 1 Basic School, stated that the school acted quickly to secure medical help for the student, but the result was tragic.

He expressed profound sadness over the loss and urged the community and students to remain calm during this challenging time.
