Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, has announced that government will build two (2) cashew factories this year, 2026.
According to her, the factories will be located in the Bono and Bono East Regions. The beneficiary regions are known to be heavy on the crop aside cocoa.
Ofosu-Agyare said this when she answered questions on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, February 17. The two factories, she explained that, will be funded by the Ghana Exim Bank. The construction of the factories is a fulfillment of a campaign promise by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
During the 2024 general election, President John Dramani Mahama, promised the regions his plans to put in place the factories to make value addition a reality. The pledge came out of a request by the farmers.
Additionally, the Minister indicated that, government intends to build 7 factories, including the two for cashew production.
The Ministry of Finance and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will be responsible for the funding but will be operated by the private sector.
