The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has officially launched the 41st edition of the National Farmers’ Day Celebration, announcing that this year’s main durbar and awards ceremony will take place in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Minister described the celebration as a major milestone in recognizing the dedication, resilience, and patriotism of Ghana’s farmers, fishers, and agricultural workers.
Established in 1985, National Farmers’ Day has evolved into a key annual event that honors those who contribute immensely to food security, employment, and national economic growth.
This year’s celebration is themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” highlighting government’s drive toward food self-sufficiency and reduced dependence on imports.
According to the Minister, the theme embodies the Ministry’s vision of a nation that produces what it eats and eats what it produces, while promoting inclusive growth and climate resilience.
The Minister explained that Ho was selected as the host city for both symbolic and strategic reasons, stating that, symbolic because of the Volta Region’s strong agricultural legacy, and strategic as it represents government’s commitment to balanced regional development.
In the lead-up to the Grand Durbar, a five-day National Agricultural Fair will be held in Ho from Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5, 2025, in partnership with Agrihouse Foundation.
The fair will exhibit innovations across the agricultural value chain, including mechanisation, irrigation, fisheries, digital agriculture, and agro-processing.
The Minister expressed gratitude to corporate sponsors such as the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Exim Bank, and Stanbic Bank for their continued partnership.
He also recognized the contributions of major collaborators, including the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ghana Cocoa Board, FAO, WFP, KOICA, World Bank, AfDB, AFD, and the governments of Italy, the Netherlands, and Canada, for their consistent support toward Ghana’s agricultural development.
The overall budget for this year’s celebration is estimated at over GHS 20 million, covering activities at the national, regional, and district levels.
The Minister called on corporate entities, development partners, and philanthropists to contribute in cash or kind, emphasizing that supporting farmers is an investment in Ghana’s future.
He officially declared the 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration launched, urging all stakeholders to unite in building a resilient and self-reliant agricultural sector for national prosperity.
