Your Contract Renewal Will Depends On Performance – Greater Accra Minister To MMDCEs

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo (MP), has given a strong warning to the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region, that their contract renewal will depend on performance and been effective.

Speaking during the maiden “Meet the Press” series held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Impartiality Conference Hall of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), the Minister expressed her disappointment at the lack of urgency from many MMDCEs, emphasizing that excuses will no longer be accepted.

“Leadership is not just about being in offices and enjoying benefits. It is about achieving results, and currently, many of you are just slacking off,” she stated.

This meeting, part of the government’s “Reset Agenda,” addressed three key topics: streetlights, sanitation, and billboard regulation.

Regarding streetlights, Hon. Ocloo revealed that the Ministry of Energy had obtained 3,000 new units, with each assembly to receive 100 units. She gave MMDCEs a two-week deadline to install them, warning that those who fail will be named and reported.

On the topic of sanitation, she called the cleanliness in the region “unacceptable,” blaming assemblies for neglect despite having funds from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF). “The smell, the dirt, the blocked drains show your failure to lead. The time for excuses is over,” she remarked, adding that MMDCEs who do not perform could be removed from their positions.

Concerning illegal billboards and the theft of drain covers, she instructed assemblies to enhance enforcement and work with the Police, stressing that true leadership demands initiative, not laziness.

The Minister expressed worries about the improper use of Personal Assistants (PAs) in assemblies, cautioning that they should not take on official duties like writing speeches, approving documents, or representing MMDCEs.

The Minister also criticized the transformation of official offices into venues for political party meetings, calling it an abuse of power.

On environmental matters, Hon. Ocloo promised that the RCC, along with relevant agencies, would step up demolitions at the Sakumo Ramsar site and stop the illegal filling of the Laloi Lagoon in Ningo-Prampram.

She labeled these actions as reckless and harmful to biodiversity and flood management.

In summary, the Minister stated that her evaluation of MMDCEs will focus on sanitation, streetlights, and enforcement of by-laws, with results sent to the Ministry of Local Government and the Presidency.

She encouraged residents to assist by reporting broken streetlights, refraining from littering, and safeguarding public infrastructure.

“The people of this region are fed up with promises; they demand results, and they want them immediately,” she asserted.
