The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment has partnered with Richard Nii Armah Quaye (RNAQ) Foundation to intensify campaign against the use of Opioid popularly known as “Red” use among youth in Ghana.
The collaboration is to foster policies and programs aimed at addressing the menace in Ghanaians youth.
Addressing the youth of Ghana on International Youth Day, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Mr. George Opare Addo stressed the need to tackle opioid abuse and enhance the well-being of young people in Ghana.
Mr. Addo pointed out the significant contributions of Ghana’s youth in areas like innovation, entrepreneurship, social activism, and community development.
A Change in Viewpoint
The Minister observed a positive change in how young people are viewed in development programs, shifting from being just beneficiaries to becoming influential agents of change.
“Ghanaian youth are spearheading community initiatives, promoting environmental sustainability, advocating for social justice, and creating opportunities for their fellow peers,” he stated
Government Commitment
Addo reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for youth to succeed. The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment is concentrating on five key areas, particularly focusing on the health and wellness of young individuals. The Minister emphasized that no progress can occur if people are not in optimal mental and physical health.
Combating Opioid Abuse
The Ministry has initiated programs to address opioid abuse, acknowledging its harmful effects on young people. Addo praised the RNAQ Foundation for its contribution of GH¢500,000 to aid the Ministry’s initiatives.
The foundation’s efforts, such as food banks and assistance for young entrepreneurs, are in line with the Ministry’s goals
.The main focus areas involve offering chances for young individuals to enhance their skills and abilities, aiding young entrepreneurs and fostering innovation, prioritizing the physical and mental well-being of youth, promoting community involvement and social activism among young people, and collaborating with organizations to advance youth development and empowerment.
