The quick response from the Eastern Regional Police Command, along with the Military and National Security, led to the arrest of 11 suspects and the recovery of five pump-action rifles and 23 live cartridges related to the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in Adambrobe, near Aburi in the Akuapem South Municipality.
The first arrests took place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, by the Aburi District Command, following intelligence-driven operations in the region.
Initially, 10 suspects were detained, and an additional arrest was made on Monday, May 4, during a joint operation, raising the total to eleven.
The suspects include Dawu Joseph, 32, a farmer; Evans Dekadzor, 34, a security guard; Kwame Aboagye, 45, a vulcanizer; Christian Atsu, 28, a security guard; Samuel Annan, 29, a security guard; Thomas Davidson, 34, a security guard; Abusuapanyin Owusu Paul, 56, a member of the Adambrobe Asekyere; Richard Agyekum, 35, a security guard; Jerry Johnson Kwame Atilla, 42, a businessman from Sowutuom; and Samuel Obeng, a taxi driver from Adambrobe.
The eleventh suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, was arrested on Monday after being seen in a celebratory procession, indicating he had also been enstooled as Chief of Adombrobe.
During a media briefing on Monday, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander ACP Richard Appiah stated that a police search resulted in the recovery of five unregistered pump-action rifles, 23 live cartridges, one taser, six mobile phones, and a piece of body armour.
Two vehicles were also seized: an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with the registration number GE 2560-19.
According to the police, some suspects were wearing Ghana Immigration Service camouflage uniforms at the time of their arrest.
The Deputy Commander confirmed that all suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations and will be brought before the court.
The dispute over the Adombrobe chieftaincy arises from disagreements within the Royal family regarding who has the right to be made chief.
Famous Ghanaian actor Mikki Osei Berko, known as Master Richard or Dada Boat, was made a chief in Adamorobe during a ceremony on Friday, April 24, 2026, where local authorities formally introduced him to traditional leadership.
He received the stool name Nana Osei Boakye Yiadom II.
However, the opposing faction tried to install Douglas Amoako Danquah as Chief on Monday, which increased tensions in the community, prompting police intervention.
The Police stated that they obtained a restraining order preventing both factions from holding any enstoolment ceremony, but both sides ignored it.
The Police also mentioned that Mikki Osei Berko and others involved in his enstoolment are currently facing legal action in Akropong.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has promised residents that it is dedicated to ensuring peace and stability in Adombrobe and has urged all parties in the dispute to remain calm and avoid violence.
